Bacon is killing us: But does it have to?

You might have remembered the big health scare a few years when bacon was identified as containing carcinogins that were causing tens of thousands of extra cases of cancer. In particular it was the nitrates that are used to cure bacon (and salamis, chorizo, bratwurst etc) that increase the probability of cancer particularly colon cancer.

This scare seems to have fallen away since the big expose. But the reality of the problem hasn’t. There is an excellent story in The Guardian which explores how the meat industry managed to massage the story to “make it go away.” But of course the facts have stayed behind.

But guess what ? You can still eat bacon safely !! Check out the story to get the full picture.
